Research in Learning Design – Professional Development Session

I attended a professional development session focused on the role of research in learning experience design. Led by the LXD Ahmed Lachheb, the session explored how LXDs can engage with scholarly and practitioner research, apply evidence-based strategies in course development, and contribute to design-based inquiry. Topics included research-informed decision-making, the use of learning analytics, and the role of reflection in iterative design.

Core Competencies

  • Using Research and Evaluation Skills

This session deepened my understanding of how learning design is situated within an evolving research landscape. I reflected on ways to use both qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions and began exploring how reflective documentation and user feedback can contribute to iterative, research-informed practices.

  • Fostering Workplace Skills and Professional Relationships

This session, at The Center for Academic Innovation, offered an opportunity to engage in shared professional learning within my workplace context. Participating in this session strengthened my connection to the design community at CAI, helped me align with team practices, and contributed to a culture of reflective collaboration.

This session helped me frame my own applied projects as part of a broader research conversation. It encouraged me to think of design not just as production, but as inquiry. I began to see revision as something that could be guided by evidence—treating each iteration as an opportunity to learn what’s working, what’s not, and why.
